Mediacom Business Powers TechWorks Campus Startup Weekend with 5-Gigabit Broadband Connection

Entrepreneurial hopefuls to present new business concepts using Mediacom Business High Capacity Broadband.

Waterloo, IA - November 19, 2015 - Mediacom Business, a division of Mediacom Communications Corporation, announced today that it will be providing the broadband to power Startup Weekend at the Cedar Valley Techworks Campus in Waterloo from November 20-22, 2015. Participating entrepreneurs will utilize speeds of up to 5 Gigabits per second (Gbps) provided by Mediacom Business to develop and present their business startup ideas during the 54-hour event hosted by TechWorks and the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber.

Hosting Startup Weekend is part of the Cedar Valley Alliance’s commitment to support its entrepreneurial ecosystem by showcasing business ideas from development through launch. Knowing that Mediacom Business’ fiber infrastructure has the scalability to quickly increase its broadband capacity, TechWorks requested that Mediacom Business ramp up its speeds to 5 Gbps during the event. The 5-Gigabit solution will provide the reliability and capacity for participants to simultaneously utilize the Internet for a variety of development components, such as customer discovery, research, website development, Google drive, web tools and proof of concept.

“These participants are forward-thinkers who require big broadband pipes to create successful platforms for their startups,” stated Wes James, Director, Operations TechWorks and IAMNH, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber. He added, “Our purpose is to act as a catalyst for economic and community development, and by providing gigabit speed as an event resource, these entrepreneurs will have the benefit of a strong broadband backbone to demonstrate their business innovation and competitive advantages.”

This is the second Startup Weekend Cedar Valley established by a team of community volunteers, and it is a part of the Global Startup Battle, a global celebration of innovation that gives individuals, teams and the hosting city a unique chance at startup success. During the extended weekend, more than 120 participants will be teamed up to pitch, develop and present their startup ideas. A diverse group of community leaders, business development professionals and creative designers will mentor and judge entries and select three winners.
